Prof. Dr. Jeanette Erdmann
Prof. Dr. Jeanette Erdmann, a respected cardiovascular geneticist and leader at the Institute of Cardiogenetics and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK), passed away on July 9, 2023 at 57. Born in Emsland, Germany, in 1965, she earned her degree in biology from the University of Cologne. Jeanette was a highly cited researcher (45,260 citations; h-index of 87), and she was involved in large-scale consortia, such as the CARDIoGRAMplusC4D. She was also elected to the National Academy of Science Leopoldina in 2021. Jeanette was the first female in North Germany to achieve a DZHK full professorship in cardiovascular genetics, paving the way for women in the field. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jeanette faced personal challenges, having been born with muscular dystrophy. Her resilience and commitment to understanding her condition led her to self-diagnose and uncover a rare pathogenic mutation, showcasing her tenacity and contribution to genetic research.
