Advancing Young Voices through Diversity and Inclusion
NAVBO established a funding platform to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the undergraduate and graduate student career stages.
NAVBO actively recruits trainees as members and supports their growth and career and had obtained funding via an NIH-funded grant to Medical College of Wisconsin to support the educational training of students. This training includes the attendance at scientific conferences and/or webinars. NAVBO trainee members can participate in several webinars throughout the year, plus Journal Clubs, focus sessions and symposia, thus recruiting new members will bring more educational opportunities to these students.
Although this funding is no longer available, we will continue to offer membership scholarships to help increase diversity and inclusion within the vascular biology community, expose more young scientists to the field of vascular biology, and to bring more trainees into this collaborative community. Therefore, we are extending an offer of free membership to students who are members of populations that are not well represented in vascular biology, including but not limited to Black/African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Indigenous Peoples of America/Native American (including Native Hawaiian and Alaskan), and LGBTQ+. We would also like to extend this offer to students who may be at a financial disadvantage and would benefit from this opportunity.
If you or your students, are interested in this opportunity,
NAVBO and Your Privacy
When you join NAVBO you will be added to our general mailing list and receive emails promoting our meetings. You will also receive member-specific emails alerting you of award opportunities, calls for nominations (council, committees, awards, etc.), you will also receive the Vascular Biology Publications Alert (our monthly digest of recent publications) and of course renewal notices are also sent via email. From time to time we also send emails concerning funding for the NIH or other policy matters that are very specific to our members.
Members are also added to the mailing list of our bi-weekly NAVBO NewsBEAT, which is filled with not only opportunities from NAVBO and information about our meetings, but opportunities from other groups, helpful information aimed at trainees (Spotlight on Trainees), relevant topics of interest (Industry News), job openings, calendar of events, member submitted papers, Lab of the Month and Lessons Learned from our assistant professors. I encourage you to open it. The NewsBEAT is generated using Constant Contact, an email marketing provider. An unsubscribe is included in every issue. Click-throughs are counted but your personal information is never shared with any third party. We use the aggregate number to assess interest in our content.
NAVBO members will also receive, via first class mail, the NAVBO Summer Newsletter, meeting brochures, and renewal notices.
